Benchmark Growth Targets and Balanced Assessment System
The Swallow School Mission statement expresses a commitment to providing each student with the personalized learning experiences that will ensure success in life.
The Swallow School District, with families and community, will inspire every child to achieve maximum potential for future success as a self-directed, problem-solving, responsible, life-long learner.
A strategy associated with this goal is:
We will design and deliver curriculum and instruction based on a review of student data and ongoing assessment that reflects current research and best practice in order to meet the needs of all students.
Over the past several years, school staff have participated in reviewing and aligning benchmark targets with our standards based curriculum in the areas of Reading and Math. Benchmark targets (see link below) were established at each grade level to guide staff in designing instruction for students to meet or exceed these targets. The revision process is on-going.
The Balanced Assessment System document (see link below) indicates the variety of assessments we currently use to guide the process of designing and delivering instruction. The purpose of having a balanced assessment system is to provide students, parents, educators, and the public with a range of information about academic achievement and to determine best practices and policies that will result in improvement in student learning. More information about the Balanced Assessment System can be found at the following website: http://dpi.wi.gov/oea/pdf/balsystem.pdf
