Letter from the Superintendent
Whether you are a current family or one looking for a school community for your children, I am delighted to welcome you to our website and highlight a few important aspects of who we are today.
Our renowned educational history on the present-day school site began in 1894 when the original one-room schoolhouse located on the southwest corner of the property was constructed by community members. From the early days when students helped to tutor one another in reading, social studies, and arithmetic, to today when students are also instructed in the areas of Spanish, music, physical education, art, science, and technology, we are proud of our rich traditions of academic excellence, collaboration between all members of the school community, and strong parental involvement.
As the community has grown, there have been several additions to the building and upgrades to the facilities to support our current enrollment of more than 600 students in what is now a three-section school. We take tremendous pride in the commitment to ensure all students are prepared for the 21 st century and that our curriculum and instructional techniques meet the needs of all learners. Our technology supports this vast and rigorous academic program and during the summer of 2011 we have transitioned to remote access for all students and staff along with the availability of wireless internet across the entire building, both thin and thick client computers for an increased hardware replacement cycle, updated Promethean boards and projectors, and installed multiple mobile carts that include a total of 60 existing notebooks, 90 new notebooks for the elementary school, and 25 new notebooks for the library. Shortly, we will also roll out our new website with the goal of increasing user-friendliness and communication with all school stakeholders.
If we can provide you with a tour or any additional information, please contact us. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Melissa Thompson
Superintendent
Welcome to Our New Website!
We are pleased to launch our updated website! Though we can always improve and remain committed to doing so, we hope that the new design, additional categories, and more detailed information can help everyone from current staff, students, and parents to our valued community members and prospective families find the information being sought. Over the next few months we anticipate convening a focus group to provide feedback on the website and other ways to best communicate so please stay tuned. In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office or email Kristin Magnuson at magnusok@swallow.k12.wi.us.
