Art

Hello, I am Tom Mancuso, known to my students over the years as Mr. Man. As the new art teacher at Swallow School I am excited to be part of the Swallow community and teach 4K & 5K art. I have been a K-12 art educator for the School District of Waukesha (SDW) for the past 30 years. In addition, I have been the SDW Art Coordinator since 2017. I am a graduate of the HS of Art & Design in NYC (1977), and attended the School of Visual Arts in NY. I received my BFA in Art Education at UWM in 1992. I have a Masters in Visual Studies through Cardinal Stritch University.

My wife and I have been residents of the Town of Delafield since 1988. We have 2 sons who are graduates of Arrowhead HS and UWM. My wife Patte had a state licensed daycare in our home, Sundance Family Daycare, from 1989-1998. I have been involved in the Lake Country community for many years as a coach for the Hartland Hawks baseball organization, and the Lake Country United Soccer Club. I was a School Co-Chair for the referendum committee that worked to fund the building of North Shore MS in 1995.

In between my years at SVA and UWM I was cook and chef at several restaurants in CO, NY, WA and WI. I still cook for fun and enjoy grocery shopping! I continue to work and play in the fields of Photography, Graphic Design, Ceramics and Painting.

I look forward to working with you and your children as we develop their creative expression and skills.

Physical Education/Health

Hello Swallow Parents and Students, my name is Chris Evans and it is my pleasure to be teaching here at Swallow School. I serve here teaching Physical Education/Health, as well as Project Lead The Way.

I graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1984 and after a short stint in the army, moved on to UW-Whitewater where I received my bachelor’s degree in 1992. I spent my early teaching years at several other districts, Port Washington, St. Francis, and Waukesha; before finding a home here at Swallow. I went on to earn my master’s degree in computer science from Cardinal Stritch in 2002, and completed several PLTW courses from 2015-2019.

I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, and my hobbies include fishing, boating, biking and golfing.

It is my mission to help my students be as successful as possible in my classes. To help achieve that please reach out to me whenever the need arises to ensure that your student can reach their highest potential.

I have enjoyed all of my time here at Swallow, and I am excited to start another year working with all of our wonderful families.

Grades 4K-5

¡Hola Swallow Families!

My name is Jeanne Hanson and I teach 4K through 5th grade Spanish. I started teaching Spanish at Swallow in 2006. Before that, I taught Spanish at St. Anthony’s and Queen of Apostles in Pewaukee for K-8th graders from 2000-2006.

I grew up in Whitefish Bay and attended WFB High School. My love for language started early; when I took French in 6th grade, Spanish in 8th grade and then added German my senior year of high school. I spent the summer after high school in Weissenburg, Germany living with a family through the German club. I attended my freshman year at UW-La Crosse and then transferred to UW-Madison. I spent my junior year in college studying language and culture abroad at the Universidad de Sevilla, Spain. I traveled all over Europe that summer and spent 3 weeks in the Greek Islands! I graduated in 1988 with a Major in Spanish and Minors in Education, German and Italian. In 1988 I met my husband in Madison and moved to 29 Palms, California while he served four years in the Marine Corps. After that we moved back to Wisconsin where I became a mom for my two boys, Tyler and Trevor and taught exercise classes at the YMCA and Westwood Health and Fitness. In 2000, I began teaching Spanish one day a week at the church around the corner with a substitute license and realized my passion for teaching. I went back to school in 2004 and received my teaching license for K-12 Spanish in 2006.
When not teaching, I enjoy practicing yoga, essential oils, cooking and entertaining for friends and family, taking long bike rides, card making and reading. Lots and lots of reading!
I’m always excited for the start of a new school year. I love guiding and riding along with students on their Spanish language journey. I am also very passionate about how we can learn more about ourselves in order to become mindful, compassionate and kind humans. I feel very fortunate to be able to see our students grow from 4K through 5th grade. I am a very positive and upbeat person and my classroom environment reflects that. I encourage all students to take chances with the language...it’s how we grow! Feeling very lucky to be at Swallow and to be surrounded by such a caring and committed staff.

Art

Welcome to 1st-8th Grade Art!! My goals for students are that they will find success; gain artistic and problem-solving skills; learn that mistakes are a way to learn and grow; and discover a love for art -- whether it’s a medium, an artist, technique, process, or just a positive way to express themselves.

Professional Experience
One of the best things about teaching art is having the opportunity to see students grow from year to year. I have experience teaching in both art and regular education classrooms from Pre-K through 12th grade. I run a middle school Art Club. Additionally, I am the scenery designer and one of the Swallow Middle School Drama Club directors.

Education
My Bachelor’s Degree is in Art Education, Pre-K-12th Grade with a minor in English from UW-Milwaukee. In 2010, I earned a Pre-K through 6th Grade regular ed teaching license through the MAT program at Cardinal Stritch University; and in 2016 completed my Masters in the Art of Teaching, also through Cardinal Stritch.

Personal Life
I enjoy spending time with my husband, Steve, and three children -- Jakob (21), Annika (19), and Erika (17) and our fancy Australian Terrier/Basset/Beagle/Dachshund mix, Cinna and our little Italian Doxie, Banksy. I also enjoy working on my own art, exercising, going to concerts and the theater, reading, spending time with friends, gardening, cooking, and playing/running team trivia, and volunteering at Life Center MKE’s food pantry.
