Master Facility Plan
The Swallow School District has been Inspiring Excellence since the doors to the first schoolhouse opened in January of 1844. With an ongoing commitment to always placing Students First, regular evaluation of processes, practices, and data to ensure Continuous Improvement, routine and frequent opportunities for Community Engagement, a commitment to Fiscal Responsibility, and a culture grounded in Respect and Honesty, the School Board began the process of creating a Long-Range Master Facility Plan in fall of 2013 when it hired Plunkett Raysich Architects to complete a Facilities Study.
Since then in 2013, 2016 and most recently in January 2018 the School Board has held a series of Community Conversations engaging students, parents, staff, and residents. These Conversations shaped a shared vision for curriculum, programming, services, and spaces to meet the community’s needs.
The School Board formed a Facility Advisory Committee (FAC) in fall 2017 made up of a cross-section of the community. By meeting with teachers and school staff, reviewing video footage of daily operations, participation in this year's Community Conversations series, and discussions on the condition of the building with board-approved construction manager C.G.Schmidt and architect PRA, the FAC met its charge of understanding the current needs, helping to identify and assess solutions, reviewing potential long-range master facilities plan options, providing input on a Community-Wide survey, and in June 2018 recommending a long-range master facilities plan to the School Board based on these survey results.
