Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment Information The open enrollment program is a statewide program that allows students to attend a public school in a district other than the one in which they reside, if space is available. To be considered for open enrollment, parents/guardians must submit an application for the regular application period between February 2 - April 30, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Parents may apply online at https://dpi.wi.gov/oe. Visit the DPI Open Enrollment homepage to review the 2026-2027 Open Enrollment brochure.
After July 1, parents wishing to open enroll their child must complete the Alternative Open Enrollment Application Process. This is a different process than during the regular open enrollment period.

Should we still apply if there are no seats open at the grade level(s) of my children?
Yes--all students who apply will be a part of the lottery process and then be placed on a waiting list if applicable. Since districts must declare open seats in January, sometimes those wait-listed are able to attend based on changes to enrollment throughout the spring and summer months. This can also be true of last minute changes over the summer during the Alternative Open Enrollment period.
How do you apply?
Open Enrollment Applications are completed online via the state's OPAL system. Forms must be downloaded and filled out before submitting it to the Department of Public Instruction, which we then have access to. Please use THIS website for more details.
